Cards vs. Phillies

Dave's dad gave us tickets to tonight's Cards game that he wasn't going to use, so we took Tyler and had a great time. The weather couldn't have been better and Tyler was full of questions about the rules of baseball. The most important thing to him was being able to locate the score on the big screen, so once we got that out of the way, he was content to watch the game--at least until he got tired, which was around 8:45 (top of the 6th inning). His fave part of the game was getting to see Fredbird, of course (we weren't sure that was going to happen, since our seats were WAY at the top). After seeing an announcement on the Jumbotron that Fredbird would be in Ford Plaza until the 3rd inning, Tyler and I rushed down there only to find out that he wasn't actually going to be making an appearance tonight (apparently, the message that we saw was a default one and someone forgot to remove it from the announcements). Tyler was bummed, but after I explained that Fredbird probably just didn't feel well enough to walk that far, Tyler seemed okay with it and we headed back to our seats. About 45 minutes later, guess who appeared in our section? Tyler immediately looked at me and said, "Mom, I thought you said Fredbird was too sick to come and see us?" Nothing like getting caught in a lie by your own kids. :) He was too excited to care, though, and wanted to run the big red bird down right away. It wasn't easy to get close to him--I couldn't believe how excited kids AND adults get about having their picture taken with Fredbird (the adults were actually worse!). We were patient, though, and finally got our turn with him. After seeing Fredbird lean over and put his beak around other kids' heads, Tyler said, "Fredbird, eat my head, too!" when our photo op arrived. Gotta love the candor of kids!

One more thing--as we were approaching the stadium, a man came out of one of the Employee Entrance doors and approached Tyler with a baseball. He gave it to him and told him that the Cardinals had just used it for batting practice. Tyler was so excited!

An excited 5-year-old with his "prize catch."
We grabbed a couple of "5-dollah foot-longs" on the way and ate them at the stadium.

It was a gorgeous evening!
This was the highlight of the night for Tyler. He giggled non-stop after Fredbird "ate" his head. :)
He wanted his momma in the picture, too!
